HPLD Machine Description
Using the HPLD will allow you to produce three times as much product without needing more employees. There’s no need for glue or clamping with the HPLD and Lockdowel system. Lockdowels help reduce assembly time by 80% or more. Putting together cases, cabinets and furniture should take minutes, not hours. Cabinets built with EClips are SEFA 8 tested and passed. They are in compliance with AWI standards.
You also have the ability to link the HPLD through Cabinet Vision’s screen-to-machine software.
Standard Operation
A part is placed into the work zone referencing the back and side fences. The palm button is pressed and the clamps secure the part into place. The machining is now ready to begin in the work zone. There are two fixed zones and two pop up zones standard in the base model HPLD allowing for pendulum processing. While the one part is being machined, the other zone(s) can be loaded and queued for machining.
What the HPLD Does
The HPLD is typically used to perform the following operations:
1. Position Spindle
2. Bore Dowel Hole
3. Insert Lockdowel Hardware
Touchscreen Interface
A 15″ Industrial Color Touchscreen is used to write and store programs.
The 15″ touch screen monitor makes viewing the specific parameters of a program easy.
OPERATOR INTERFACE SCREEN
The on-screen graphics of the operator interface have been designed to allow for quick programming at the machine. Typically, programs can be written and recalled in less than one minute. The Interface is open architecture allowing it to integrate with design software that can give hole locations in the form of a .xml file or a bar code (with bar code reader purchase found in options).
Standard Features in the software include:
1. Graphic interface to show where holes are to be drilled and if a dowel is to be inserted.
2. Pattern Drilling/Inserting.
3. Password protection of certain features/functions.
4. Online diagnostic capability (if machine is connected to an internet connection).
5. Toggle between Metric or Imperial programing parameters.
HPLD MAINTENANCE SCREEN
A Maintenance Screen gives you the ability to manage inputs, outputs and machine offsets.
From this screen you can manually trigger all outputs as well as visually see if the machine is seeing the inputs correctly. You also set the machine parameters that are not as communally used such as fence and spindle offsets from this screen.
Because this screen is password protected you can be selective with who you grant access to it.

Training
Training should be attended by all individuals that need to understand how the machine functions including all Management personnel, Team Leaders, Operators and Maintenance personnel. If this machine is going in operation for multiple shifts per day, we suggest having all personal from those shifts attend this training session as well. If this is not possible and they need to be trained from the factory technician, please ask your Pillar Machine sales representative to add an additional day of training.
Details
Notes: One day of technician time is defined no less than 6 hours on-site. The technician will spend the first few hours getting the machine setup correctly and the remaining time training.
If you have purchased a custom machine that has custom tooling you have purchased, make sure to have the tooling onsite and ready for installation, prior to the installer arriving. If we purchased the tooling, it will be on your machine. Have your samples ready for the installer.
The technician has planned the day(s) to install the machine and do any training of the machine as indicated in the contract. Having your appropriate tools and equipment needed to do the install and training will provide you and the technician a smooth install.

Options for the HPLD
This option adds Rear guarding to the machine with hinged access doors. The doors are made of tube steel and expanded metal.
Notes:
1. This option is a welded feature installed during manufacturing.
2. Selecting this option may increase your machines lead time.
3. This option does not include an electronic interlock.
4. Photo may not represent the exact guard to be used in the machine.
This option gives you CNC Positioning of the Z axis (up and down) controlled by programing. This is most commonly used when customers have multiple board thicknesses, they use throughout the day. This is a much faster way to adjust the machine to the parts centerline than the standard manual Z axis.
Note: Selecting this optio
This option gives you CNC Positioning of the Z axis (up and down) controlled by programing. This is most commonly used when customers have multiple board thicknesses, they use throughout the day. This is a much faster way to adjust the machine to the parts centerline than the standard manual Z axis.
Note: Selecting this option will increase the machines lead time.
This option will add a wood dowel insertion unit to the HPLD. Our patented dowel insertion system is a straightforward design.
The design has proven to reliably insert dowels without the need for adjustment or realignment.
Dowel protrusion is set manually by use of hand digital readout. Protrusion adjustment can be set between 10-15 mm.
The standard dowel diameter supplied with machine is 8 mm by 30-35 mm length. Other diameters and lengths available upon request.
Included in option:
1. 18″ dowel bowl
2. Insertion unit
3. Glue/water valve
This option includes an additional 3 HP Router Rated High Frequency Direct Drive Horizontal Spindle to allow for multiple machine operations to take place without the need for a tool change. This option is often used for those wanting to use a combination of dowel and confirmat screw construction.
Package Includes:
(1) Extended Mounting Plate
(1) 3 HP High Frequency 18,000 RPM Direct Drive Router Spindle
(1) ER25 collet
(1) ER25 cover nut
Please specify what this spindle intended use prior to placing the machine order. This will help us to make sure we are providing the right option as well as the correct collet size.
A Laser Part Width Sensor allows you to insert a part into the work zone, have the width sensor measure part, and automatically run the program. This is especially useful with running stiles that change
in length frequently.
Notes:
This option can be used in two methods
- Standard wood dowel insertion mode:
a. This sensor will work in conjunction with parametric programing. (This is a programing feature that defines the dowel placement based on the parts length. For more information see section Parametric Programing above in the section “What Comes with the HP5D”.) - Rail grooving and stile program modification:
a. For rail grooving you will place a part to be grooved in the work zone and put the machine into “scan mode”. The machine will then scan the length of the part and place a groove along the entire edge of the rail.
b. For stile program modification you will place the stile in the work zone and put the machine into “scan mode”. The machine will then scan the length of the stile and place drill holes in a groove along the edge according to the hole and groove pattern that is preselected based on the program parameters.
When scanning in any of the above-mentioned modes there is an on screen option that will allow you to scan every board placed in the work zones or to scan the first board then apply the length scanned to all the future boards. This saves time in processing multiple boards that are the same length.

Automatic Oiler option adds a compressed air automatic oiler to the frequently used bearings on the machine. The oiler uses oiled compressed air to deliver lubrication to the linear bearings. Because of the nature of this option, the bearings operate under positive pressure making them less susceptible to dust contamination.
Notes:
- The oil injection amount can be adjusted using an adjustment knob on a pneumatic oiler at the machine.
- The oiler will operate anytime the spindle is spinning.
- The bearings that are oiled are:
a. 4 each X-axis linear bearings
b. 4 each under Drill spindle linear bearings
c. 4 each under Groove spindle linear bearings - Photo may not represent the exact oiling device to be used in this option.
- Selecting this option may increase your machines lead time.
Keyed Electronic Interlock option gives instant switch access to the rear guarding hinged access doors and acts as an “Emergency Stop”.
Notes:
1. Photo may not represent the exact switch to be used on the machine.
2. Selecting this option may increase your machines lead time.
Fixed mounted Barcode Reader option allows the operator to scan barcodes at the machine as a means of opening a part file. This will open a file that has the exact name in the program folder.
Notes:
1. Barcode reader only opens files that are meant to be read and used on this specific type of machine.
2. Option includes one standalone fixed mounted barcode reader and all required software to use it.
3. Photo may not represent the exact barcode reader to be used in this option.
4. Selecting this option may increase your machines lead time.
