MMTJ Machine Description
The MMTJ CNC Miter Mortise and Tenon Machine Center is tailored specifically to meet high-volume production requirements. Offering flexibility as well as productivity, the MMTJ provides high quality mitered mortise and tenon parts for use in cabinet door construction.
The MMTJ is built on award winning technology. It won the “Challengers Award” at the 2004 IWF fair in Atlanta, Georgia.
Standard Operation
Parts are placed into the work zones, referencing the back and side fences. The start button is pressed, and the clamps secure the part into place. The machining is ready to begin in the work zone. There are 2 zones standard in the MMTJ allowing for pendulum processing. While one part is being machined, the other zone can be loaded and queued for machining.
There are three CNC controlled axis, one in the X (left to right), one in the Z (up and down), and one in the Y (in and out).
What the MMTJ Does
The MMTJ is typically used to perform the following operations:
1. Cuts 45 degree miters on profiled hard wood, soft and/or MDF
2. Cuts tenons right into the wood itself in zone 1.
3. Drills mortise pockets into the part in zone 2.
4. This machine will produce 175-200 miter doors per 8 hour shift.
Touchscreen Interface
A 15″ Industrial Color Touchscreen is used to write and store programs.
The 15″ touch screen monitor makes viewing the specific parameters of a program easy.
USER INTERFACE SCREEN
The easy to use software allows the operator to change from one saved program to another in seconds with only two touches to the screen.
A password protected edit feature allows quick and easy editing of existing programs or creating new programs. A new program can be created from scratch in a few minutes with very little training.
Standard Features in the software include:
1. Mortise and tenon
a. Thickness
b. Width
c. Depth
d. X axis placement
e. Z axis placement
2. Board dimensions (width and thickness)
3. Speed of cut (feed rate)
4. Two different tool paths to choose per operation (this gives flexibility to how the tool enters and exits the board)
5. Password protected edit functions
6. Save/Delete programs
7. Cycle counter
8. On screen graphical display of the Mortise and Tenon features
MMTJ MAINTENANCE SCREEN
A Maintenance Screen gives you the ability to manage inputs, outputs and machine offsets.
From this screen you can manually trigger all outputs as well as visually see if the machine is seeing the inputs correctly. You also set the machine parameters that are not as communally used such as fence and spindle offsets from this screen.
Because this screen is password protected you can be selective with who you grant access to it.

Customer Responsibilities:
1. Floor preparation per your needs.
2. All power supply connection per national and local codes and standards.
3. Any necessary pneumatic connections and supply.
4. Moving of the equipment which could require forklift(s), rigging, and labor.
5. Materials and tooling needed for machine testing, training, or adjusting.
Expectations
The machine will ship fully assembled, and nearly functional. Pillar Machine expects the machinery to be in place, and all the necessary utilities to have already been brought to the machine before the technician arrives. The technician will finish preparing the machine to run and instruct any machine operators in how to maintain and operate the machine properly.
Should the machine not be ready at the time of the technician’s arrival, Pillar Machine reserves the right to charge up to $1000 for itinerary changes in the case of a complete cancellation of the installation, Pillar Machine will charge the full $1600 per day rate plus all travel expenses for the return visit.
Training
Training should be attended by all individuals that need to understand how the machine functions including all Management personnel, Team Leaders, Operators and Maintenance personnel. If this machine is going in operation for multiple shifts per day, we suggest having all personal from those shifts attend this training session as well. If this is not possible and they need to be trained from the factory technician, please ask your Pillar Machine sales representative to add an additional day of training.
Details
Notes: One day of technician time is defined no less than 6 hours on-site. The technician will spend the first few hours getting the machine setup correctly and the remaining time training.
If you have purchased a custom machine that has custom tooling you have purchased, make sure to have the tooling onsite and ready for installation, prior to the installer arriving. If we purchased the tooling, it will be on your machine. Have your samples ready for the installer.
The technician has planned the day(s) to install the machine and do any training of the machine as indicated in the contract. Having your appropriate tools and equipment needed to do the install and training will provide you and the technician a smooth install.

Options for the MMTJ
This option includes the following:
(1) Tooling for cutting Slim Shaker mortise and tenons
(1) Reference Fence Parts
The interlock secures the rear cage doors (Additional Option) making it impossible to open the rear doors to the inside of the machine unless the emergency stop button is pressed. This allows for safe entry into the inside of the machine.
Do you require extra holding power in your door construction? This option upgrades the tooling to put two grooved lines in the edge of the tenon to give anchor points for glue.
This option adds a compressed air automatic oiler to the frequently used bearings on the machine. The oiler uses oiled compressed air to deliver lubrication to the linear bearings. Because of the nature of this option, the bearings operate under positive pressure making them less susceptible to dust contamination.
Includes: One each 2″ diameter Royce Air Diamond Tenon Cutter head.
This is the spare tenon cutting tool we recommend purchasing to be rotated in during the time that the other is being sharpened.
Notes:
1. Pillar Machine reserves the right to change the design or supplier of this tool for the purpose of improving the tool design or supplier.
This option allows you to rotate the table plates from 45 degrees to 90 degrees. This will allow you to cut strait round end tenons
in both zones 1 and 2.
Notes:
1. This option includes an extra set of back fences that will locate the strait part as it is loaded in the machine.
2. Side clamps will not work when cutting strait tenons.
3. Max depth of strait tenon is .500″
4. When cutting straight tenons the machine will not be allowed to use the mortise spindle.
5. Estimated time to change over from 45 degree to 90 degree is 3 minutes.
The long board support option gives you two bolt-on table extenders. These table extenders assist supporting the boards that are longer than 35″ in length as they are being machined in the MMTJ.
