MMTX Machine Description
Offering flexibility as well as productivity, the MMTX provides high quality mitered mortise and tenon parts for use in cabinet door construction. This machine produces between 400-500 doors per 8 hour shift with one operator.
The MMTX is built on award winning technology. It won the “Challengers Award” at the 2004 IWF fair in Atlanta, Georgia.
Standard Operation
There are six CNC controlled axis between two machining carriages, each carriage contains one X axis (left to right), one Z axis (up and down), and one Y axis (in and out).
Parts are placed into the work zones, referencing the back and side fences. The start button is pressed, and the clamps secure the part into place. The machining is ready to begin in the work zone. There are 2 zones standard in the MMTX allowing for pendulum processing. While the one part is being machined, the other zone can be loaded and queued for machining.
What the MMTX Does
The MMTX is typically used to perform the following operations:
Mitering
Mortising
Tenoning
Touchscreen Interface
A 15″ Industrial Color Touchscreen is used to write and store programs.
The 15″ touch screen monitor makes viewing the specific parameters of a program easy.
OPERATOR INTERFACE SCREEN
The easy to use software allows the operator to change from one saved program to another in seconds with only two touches to the screen.
A password protected edit feature allows quick and easy editing of existing programs or creating new programs. A new program can be created from scratch in a few minutes with very little training.
Standard Features in the software include:
1. Mortise and tenon
a. Thickness
b. Width
c. Depth
d. X axis placement
e. Z axis placement
2. Board dimensions (width and thickness)
3. Speed of cut (feed rate)
4. Two different tool paths to choose per operation (this gives flexibility to how the tool enters and exits the board)
5. Password protected edit functions
6. Save/Delete programs
7. Cycle counter
8. On screen graphical display of the Mortise and Tenon features
MMTX MAINTENANCE SCREEN
A Maintenance Screen gives you the ability to manage inputs, outputs and machine offsets.
From this screen you can manually trigger all outputs as well as visually see if the machine is seeing the inputs correctly. You also set the machine parameters that are not as communally used such as fence and spindle offsets from this screen.
Because this screen is password protected you can be selective with who you grant access to it.
MMTX TRUE 3-AXIS CNC MACHINING
The machine uses true 3 axis CNC controlled in the X, Y and Z axis. This allows for full control of the width, centerline and depth of the mortise and tenon on the machine.
The machine has two different tool paths to choose from for the removal of material. These paths are used to adjust the “Tenon Miter”, “Tenon” and “Mortise Miter” cuts. This provides adjustability needed to cut the various part shape and sizes we typically see in the cabinet miter door industry.
The ability to control the Y axis vastly improves the quality of the cut by multi-passing the part instead of hogging all the material at once causing tool deflection. Also, the depth of tenon can be infinitely controlled from the operator interface.
Difficult products such as vinyl wrapped MDF can be machined cleanly due to the 3-axis capability.

What Comes with the MMTX
Installation & Training
One day of installation is included in price of machinery.
Customer Responsibilities:
1. Floor preparation per your needs.
2. All power supply connection per national and local codes and standards.
3. Any necessary pneumatic connections and supply.
4. Moving of the equipment which could require forklift(s), rigging, and labor.
5. Materials and tooling needed for machine testing, training, or adjusting.
Expectations
The machine will ship fully assembled, and nearly functional. Pillar Machine expects the machinery to be in place, and all the necessary utilities to have already been brought to the machine before the technician arrives. The technician will finish preparing the machine to run and instruct any machine operators in how to maintain and operate the machine properly.
Should the machine not be ready at the time of the technician’s arrival, Pillar Machine reserves the right to charge up to $1000 for itinerary changes in the case of a complete cancellation of the installation, Pillar Machine will charge the full $1600 per day rate plus all travel expenses for the return visit.
Training
Training should be attended by all individuals that need to understand how the machine functions including all Management personnel, Team Leaders, Operators and Maintenance personnel. If this machine is going in operation for multiple shifts per day, we suggest having all personal from those shifts attend this training session as well. If this is not possible and they need to be trained from the factory technician, please ask your Pillar Machine sales representative to add an additional day of training.
Details
Notes: One day of technician time is defined no less than 6 hours on-site. The technician will spend the first few hours getting the machine setup correctly and the remaining time training.
If you have purchased a custom machine that has custom tooling you have purchased, make sure to have the tooling onsite and ready for installation, prior to the installer arriving. If we purchased the tooling, it will be on your machine. Have your samples ready for the installer.
The technician has planned the day(s) to install the machine and do any training of the machine as indicated in the contract. Having your appropriate tools and equipment needed to do the install and training will provide you and the technician a smooth install.

Options for the MMTX
This option adds rear guarding to the machine with hinged access doors. The doors are made of tube steel and expanded metal.
Notes:
1. This option is a welded feature installed during manufacturing.
2. Selecting this option may increase your machines lead time.
3. This option does not include an electronic interlock.
4. This option guards the machines sides and back. The top will remain open.
5. Photo may not represent the exact guard to be used in the machine.
The interlock secures the rear cage doors (Additional Option) making it impossible to open the rear doors to the inside of the machine unless the emergency stop button is pressed. This allows for safe entry into the inside of the machine.
The Diamond Tooling Upgrade Package option includes the following:
(1) Royce Air Diamond tenon cutter head (2″ diameter).
(1) 3/8″ diameter high speed steel mortise bit.
(1) 3/8″ Collet (ER 25)
(1) 3/4″ Collet (ER 32)
(1) Cover Nut (ER 25)
(1) Cover Nut (ER 32)
(4) Spindle Wrenches
Do you require extra holding power in your door construction? This option upgrades the tooling to put two grooved lines in the edge of the tenon to give anchor points for glue.
This option adds a compressed air automatic oiler to the frequently used bearings on the machine. The oiler uses oiled compressed air to deliver lubrication to the linear bearings. Because of the nature of this option, the bearings operate under positive pressure making them less susceptible to dust contamination.
This additional diamond tool option includes the following:
Two each 2″ diameter Royce Air Diamond Tenon Cutter head.
This is the spare tenon and miter (for mortise side) cutting tools we recommend purchasing to be rotated in during the time that the other is being sharpened.
